Pool-O-Rama kicks of World Dominoes tournament

Dominoes players from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, the United States of America and hosts Guyana were in action Saturday when the World Council of Dominoes Federations (WCDF), 19th World Domino Championships got underway at the Providence National Stadium.

The championships got underway at 2pm Saturday with the popular Pool-O-Rama or King Dominoes competition played on a two-in, one-out basis, for which the entrance fee was US$15. Yesterday afternoon at 3pm, the opening ceremony took place where Assistant Director of Sport, within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Franklin Wilson delivered the feature address and declared the championships open.

Wilson was deputising for Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., who was out of the jurisdiction.

The tournament, which is being held with support from Government of Guyana and the private sector, will showcase some of the top players in the country in both the male and female categories.

The tournament wraps up on August 21 with a closing ceremony and the presentation of trophies and other prizes to the various winners.
