Man remanded over West Ruimveldt property brawl murder

Thirty-four-year-old Anthony La Rose called ‘Roodhoo’, a father of two, of Lot 280 Kuru Kururu, Linden- Soesdyke High-way, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Chief Magistrate (ag) Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus to answer to the capital offence of murder.

It is alleged that on August 10, at Hibiscus Street, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, while in the company of several others, the defendant murdered Dexter Horsham.

The court heard that on the date in question, La Rose along with several other accomplices went to West Ruimveldt to evict someone from a property he claimed belonged to his grandparents. However, he encountered  resistance from the occupants of the house as well as persons in the neighbourhood which resulted in verbal and physical confrontation.

It was at this point that one of the accomplices who was armed with a handgun shot Horsham, as well as at other persons who were trying to make peace. The accused who was armed with a cutlass, dealt Horsham  a chop to his body after he was shot.

A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the accused. According to police, he was positively identified by several witnesses.

La Rose will make his next court appearance on September 07 for statements.
