Guyanese will have access to front row seats to Elton Dharry’s upcoming fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super flyweight Gold title since the card will be staged locally on December 9.

This is according to Aleem Hussain, CEO of Nexgen Global Promotions.

Hussain told this newspaper yesterday that following numerous meetings and negotiations, “the fight has finally been made and the contracts have been sent out.”

In three weeks, Dharry is set to headline the event slated to be hosted at either the Everest Cricket ground or the National Stadium. According to Hussain, the USA based Dharry will face Ecuadorean, Rafael ‘El Campeon’ Tirado Gordillo.

“It’s a go, the WBA has sanctioned the fight and the Ministry of Sport has committed its support on behalf of the government” said Hussain.

December 9 is an all-important date for Dharry, 36, and his career.

The winner of the Dharry/Gordillo matchup will ascend to the number one contender for the coveted WBA World title.

“Elton is Guyana’s best bet to win another world title for the country and this fight puts him directly in line for the WBA world title” Hussain pointed out.

Dharry who flew back to Guyana a few weeks ago to tie up loose ends for the impending card, told this newspaper yesterday that he is excited to return to the ring following an ankle injury.

Tickets will go on sale soon for the card which is also set to feature Dexter ‘De Kid’ Marques, Imran ‘Magic’ Khan, and also a female bout.

The all pro fixture is sanctioned by the WBA and the Guyana Boxing Board of Control and will be organized by Nexgen Global Promotions, Briso Promotions and Jack Bharat in association with the Everest Cricket Club and Ministry of Sport.
