Despite inconsistent crowd attendance at Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) matches throughout the season, tonight’s KFC Elite League Cup final is expected to draw supporters of finalists Western Tigers and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) by the droves at the Eve Leary Sports Ground in Kingston.

The final, which is pencilled for 20:00hrs, was originally scheduled to be played in early December and has left fans in prolonged suspense. However, the delay has made the clash even more anticipated.

The GFF had rescheduled the final following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of five Guyana Defence Force servicemen.

However, tonight, a winner will be decided. Either the Western Tigers or the GDF outfit will walk away with the top prize of $1.5 million, with the runner-up receiving $1 million. Prior to the final, the Guyana Police Force and Buxton United will go head-to-head for the third-place prize of $500,000 and the fourth-place reward of $250,000 at 18:00hrs.

Meanwhile, in an invited comment to Stabroek Sports, GFF Competitions Director Troy Peters said, “We anticipate a very large turnout. That (Elite League Cup Final) is expected to be a very big showdown between Western Tigers and GDF, and we look forward to quality football on the night.”

Speaking to the logistics in place for tonight’s event, Peters said, “Every necessary arrangement has been finalised for the upcoming final matches. Both teams and officials are ready, and the fans are buzzing with anticipation to witness the crowning of the cup winner.”
