Guyana Harpy Eagles wicketkeeper batsman Kemol Savory recorded an unbeaten 127 to rescue the defending champion from the perilous position of 61/6, as they ended the first day on 278/6 against hosts the Jamaica Scorpions at Sabina Park.

Savory came to the crease with Guyana at 17-3 in the 14th over and eventually recorded his second first-class century. He was supported by Gudakesh Motie, who played a brilliant lower-order innings of 56 (8x4s, 1×6) from 86 balls.

He and Gudakesh Motie then produced a counter-attacking stand of 127 for the seventh wicket, which shifted the momentum back to the Eagles.

Meanwhile, Tevin Imlach, who had initially retired hurt due to a finer injury, returned to the crease and remains undefeated on 33 from 93 balls, as he combined with Savory to add 90 runs to the total following the departure of Motie.

Ojay Shield was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts with figures of 3-56, while off-spinner Pear Salmon was supported with 2-64.

Meanwhile, the West Indies Academy trailed the Windward Islands Volcanoes by 63 runs at the Coolidge Cricket Ground after ending on 99/5.

Kadeem Alleyne top-scored with 35.

The Windward Islands were dismissed in their first inning for 162. Shamar Springer led the scoring chart with 41 runs. Joshua Bishop and Johann Layne were the pick of the bowlers for the academy, with 4-24 and 3-30, respectively. Over at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago, the Barbados Pride amassed 248/3 at the conclusion of the first day against the Leeward Islands. Kraigg Brathwaite stroked an unbeaten 117, while Zachary McCaskie recorded 101.

At the Frank Worrell Memorial Ground, Trinidad and Tobago Red Forces amassed 374/4 as the combined campuses and colleges toiled. Jason Mohammed scored the most with 157, while Amir Jangoo recorded an unbeaten 151. Also undefeated at 47 was Kjorn Ottley.
