Letters to the Editor

Caricom leaders should act to save West Indies cricket

Dear Editor, The West Indies cricket team under the captaincies of Rohan Kanhai and subsequently Clive Lloyd and even Viv Richards and Richie Richardson consisted of quality players who when appointed rose to the occasion and remained competitive until they bowed out.

Buxton remains underdeveloped

Dear Editor, President Jagdeo invited a few esteemed villagers to a fancy dinner party, compliments of the Guyanese taxpayers, and then last week visited Buxton and met with a section of the community.

The President has a right to visit any village

Dear Editor, Exactly one month after the mark of the 170th anniversary of the purchase of Buxton, formerly named Plantation New Orange Nassau, I was disheartened to read and listen to some of the sentiments expatiated by some political leaders exercising their constitutionally protected and recognised freedom of expression.

A nation of the deaf

Dear Editor, Last week, the GNBS released information on noise standards (SN, August 19) for various categories, including residential and recreational receptors.

It is time for the public to demand transparency from the government

Dear Editor, As the hoopla over the President’s ‘Bux-con’ visit (‘Buxtonians divided over President’s visit,’ SN, August 22) swirls and then fades, it is time for the people of Buxton and elsewhere to start asking serious questions about the government’s infatuation with secrecy when dealing with the people’s finances.
