Letters to the Editor

The Commissioner did not provide evidence of implementation of national forest policies and procedures

Dear Editor, I was pleased to see an unusually quick response by the Commissioner of the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) (‘Guyana has a well established record of forest management which is compliant with international environmental and best practice,’ SN,  August 12; and ‘Guyana has a well established record of forest management, harvesting,’ GC, August 13) to my letter ‘Will the Minister of Agriculture now be moving towards independent forest monitoring in the forest industry?’

If there is collaboration between the President and PNC Leader in 2011 nothing will change

Dear Editor, Dr David Hinds’ publicized contribution at the WPA’s first ‘Groundings’ public discussion distinguished him as someone who is extremely reasoned and politically seasoned, and that’s why I felt shell-shocked when I read where he made an unforgivable political gaffe that the “AFC ignored changes in PNC when rejecting electoral alliance,” (SN, August 15).

Costs not awarded against former Commissioner of Title

Dear Editor, I have read your article in the Stabroek News of August 14, which stated that I was ordered to pay costs of $150,000 in relation to a case filed by Rafeena Ramjohn against one Amirally, and myself in my capacity as Commissioner of Title and The Registrar of Deeds.

Danjou Road collapsed drain not constructed by B&J Civil Works

Dear Editor, I refer to the article found on page 2, Sunday Stabroek, August 8, 2010, captioned ‘$33M Linden drainage network collapsing less than three weeks after completion,’ and the front page photo of your Monday, August 9 edition, showing a collapsed drain on Danjou Road.

The Linden river front is strewn with garbage

Dear Editor, The management of Church’s Chicken in Linden, situated in Co-op Crescent, formerly JP Santos, may have glossed over erecting a safety device in the open space along the river bank outside the building.

The city’s garbage woes continue

Dear Editor, I was heartened by the knowledge that the Girl Guides of Guyana with the help of a team from the Girlguiding UK Gold Project recently sensitised patrons and vendors at the Georgetown seawall about their responsibility for the site, which has become a virtual dump (SN, August 10, 2010).
