Letters to the Editor

Middle East countries have come to the aid of Haiti

Dear Editor,  In a letter to the Stabroek News, dated January 24, under the title, ‘Disappointed in President Jagdeo’s criticism of US while in Iran,’ Mr  Leon J Suseran criticized  President Bharrat Jagdeo’s foreign policy and specifically his alleged  criticism of the US handling of the Haitian aid effort while on a state visit to Iran.

Why did the President choose to criticize the US in Iran?

Dear Editor, In your news item, ‘US plays down Jagdeo’s criticism of Haiti role,’ (January 26), I whole-heartedly agree with the Charge d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Georgetown, Ms Karen Williams, waving off President Bharrat Jagdeo’s recent criticism of the US government’s role in earthquake-ravaged Haiti, which was based on this quoted remark: “I was informed that a delegation comprised of Latin American leaders who were going to visit Haiti and contribute aid to that country faced the objection of the US government and could not make the humanitarian move.”

Bisram got it wrong

Dear Editor, I am penning these short notes to inform readers that so-called pollster, Vishnu Bisram, got it badly wrong in Trinidad on the UNC elections.

Letters and columns are off the mark

Dear Editor, The recent spate of letters and columns in both SN and KN concerning the so-called split in the PPP as it approaches the local and general elections  are all off the mark in more ways than one.

Revisionism or rewriting of history?

Dear Editor, I expected the WPA to come out with guns blazing, given that the issues I raised in my letter had not been previously ventilated in the Guyana media (‘We must escew the “us” versus “them” mentality in the New Year’ SN, December 31).

Do medical personnel monitor our athletes?

Dear Editor, Being a supporter of the local athletic ambassadors via the dailies, it was a major shock and blow to learn about the circumstances surrounding the passing of one of Guyana’s promising junior athlete, Ms Roxanna Rigby.
