Dear Editor, Annan Boodram’s pronouncement that the WPA died with the assassination of Walter Rodney in 1980 is not new.

Dear Editor, While driving through Sophia some time ago I saw many dogs on the road outside a house, including one very sick male with a broken leg and a poodle with numerous cuts on its tiny body.

Dear Editor, Having been in the trade union movement long enough and exposed to the workings of the Ministry of Labour and Ministers’ efforts to resolve industrial disputes it is clear from the statements made by the Minister of Labour, Mr  Manzoor Nadir, that he doesn’t care one iota for  the workers of this country or respect the Laws of Guyana he has sworn to uphold.

Dear Editor, I write with reference to another ‘road-carnage’ killing. (‘Vibert Sam killed by hit-and-run taxi-driver,’ SN, December 29).

Dear Editor, I like most people around the world am happy the bomb carried by the young Nigerian on Delta Airlines on Christmas Day failed to go off and as such a horrific tragedy was prevented.

Dear Editor, One of the basic tenets of collective bargaining is that the parties bargain in good faith. 

Dear Editor, My previous response (KN, January 1) to Annan Boodram’s letter (SN, December 31, 2009) on Rodney, Jagan, the WPA and the PPP sought to draw attention to the ethno-racial context and implication of his conclusions.

Dear Editor, To put things in their proper perspective, I would like to provide a background to the article appearing in the 2010-01-01 edition of the Stabroek News, entitled ‘Government proposes six months notice before any mining’.

Dear Editor, With an election less than two years away and with a shocking lack of quality candidates, it is no wonder political dinosaurs like Messrs Ramkarran, Nagamootoo and Ramotar are emerging in the press as possible PPP leadership candidates, and President Jagdeo is beating the unconstitutional third-term drum.

Dear Editor, Happy New Year to all. I have noted the letter by Minister Robert Persaud (SN, 1.1.2010) and his attempt to shed further light on some of the issues I have previously raised as it relates to Guyana’s LCDS. 

Dear Editor, It is quite ironic to watch how a decent group started by many decent people like the late Minister Sash Sawh has now turned into a basic tool of the PPP/C, namely, the Association for Concerned Guyanese (ACG) based in Toronto Canada.

Dear Editor, We at the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission read Fidel A Captain’s letter in your December 30, 2009 edition and shared the feeling of great elation that the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association had called on the gold miners to meet and exceed the target of 300,000 ounces of gold for 2009.

Dear Editor, In direct response to a letter, ‘The majority of articles have recognized Guyana’s pioneering work in forging climate change,’ (SN, January 1), written by Mr Robert Persaud, Agriculture Minister with responsibility for Forestry, let me say he has not persuaded me, even if he has persuaded others, that Guyana’s climate change crusade has anything to do with preserving Guyana’s largely virgin forests as much as it has to do with his President trying to get his hands on big and easy money.

Dear Editor, I refer to Randy Persaud’s ‘There is reason for government writers publishing responses in the independent dailies if these have been the vehicles for criticisms’ (SN, 1.1.10). 

Dear Editor, I read your report where “The authorities are continuing to monitor the effects of spring tides…” (December 31, 2009).

Dear Editor, The modern world is different, we are told. Communications, ever freer travel, information technology and the imperative of climate change are creating a global consciousness in forging a global solution.

Dear Editor, In looking to 2010, Business Page predicted that the 2010 Budget speech would make the economy’s decline of the first half year of 2009 into a full year growth.

Dear Editor, Happy New Year to the staff of Stabroek News.

Dear Editor,Annan Boodram’s’ letter of December 31 in Stabroek News critiques and calls for an end to the “us” versus “them” mentality. 

Dear Editor, The government is setting out a proposal that miners be given six months’ notice prior to commencing mining.
