Crandon leads Guyana fight back

Led by a resilient and unbeaten half century from middle order batsman Royston Crandon, Guyana which is yet to win a game in this year’s West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional four-day competition, reached 208-6 at the end of the first day against Barbados at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence yesterday.

T&T batting slump sets up first innings battle against CCC

CAVE HILL, Barbados,  CMC – Trinidad & Tobago suffered a batting collapse of their own, after Ravi Rampaul shrugged off the disappointment of being overlooked for West Indies’ tour of England later this month to undermine the Combined Campuses & Colleges’ batting yesterday in the WICB regional four-day competition for the Headley/Weekes Trophy.

Courts held its Easter hat competition yesterday, and the entrant with probably the largest bonnet also happened to be the oldest.

Task force

Last week local politics took on a tincture of absurdity. It was all due to the efforts of Mr Clinton Collymore, the Co-Chair of the local government reform task force.

The annual Kei-Shar’s sponsored chess tournament is currently being contested at the Kei-Shar’s Sports Club on Hadfield St. After three rounds of the eight round swiss system tournament, National Champion Kriskal Persaud and Dennis Dillon share the lead with the maximum three points. The highlight of last Sunday’s play was the clash between Persaud and Taffin Khan, Guyana’s junior chess champion. The two champions met previously during the DDL Topco Juice Mashramani chess tournament when Taffin overwhelmed his opponent with a series of good moves. This time, however, Kriskal played less exuberantly and kept a clear head to win the game and take the full point. Dillon, on the other hand, played impressively to defeat Webster and his other opponents. The three final rounds of the tournament will be played today at the Kei-shar’s Sports Club.
