Ramdhani siblings cop major Canada badminton titles

Narayan and Priyanna Ramdhani continued their glowing showing in Canada after the Guyanese siblings combined to cart off three titles at the Yonex Alberta Series Number One tournament, held at the Sunridge Badminton Centre in Calgary Alberta Canada October 4-5.

The brother and sister combination  won the Mixed Doubles C-Flight title after they accounted for Viro Hang and Ivy Ung of Sunridge Badminton Centre 21-12, 21-15 in the final.

Priyanna had further success when she joined forces with Mary Smith to claim the women’s Doubles B-Flight title after defeating Carol Fu and Jessica Leung of Calgary Winter Club Drive Sports Badminton Club 21-14, 21-13 in the final. 

The young woman, who is the reigning National Sports Commission (NSC) junior Sportswoman-of-the Year, crowned the weekend by collecting the women’s B Flight singles crown after defeating  Fu in the title match 21-10, 21-13.

The siblings also made it into the quarter and semifinal of a few other events. 

Meanwhile, the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) in a release said that the showing by the Guyanese pair was “extremely great” since they went up against some of the top competitors in the number one ranked Pan American country.
