Albion Community Center Cricket Club defeated Rose Hall Town Bakewell by 42 runs Thursday to win the Berbice Cricket Board/Ramnaresh Sarwan Under-17 tournament.

The final, played under favourable weather at Area H Ground, saw Albion batting first and posting 198 for eight from their allotted 50 overs.

RHT Bakewell in reply were contained to 156 all out in 46.5 overs.

Albion’s batting centered around an even half century from Man-of-the-Match, Reyad Karim, whose knock included three boundaries. His innings was supported by cameos from Sarwan Chaitnarine (33), Leon Cecil (23) and Tameshwar Mahadeo (20).

RHT Bakewell’s spinners took centre stage with Matthew Pottaya (2-28) and skipper, Jonathan Rampersaud (2-51) the principal wicket-takers.

In the chase, RHT Bakewell were derailed by Kumar Deopersaud, whose 4-16 from eight overs, shifted the game in favour of Albion as the hosts lost their last five wickets for 45 runs.

Cecil got the early breakthrough, removing Seeraj Chatterpaul who failed to score while Gourav Ramesh (2-10) struck with the wickets of opener, Ricardo Ramdeholl, who made 29 and Mahendra Gopilall (00) to see the hosts slip to 43 for four.

Rampersaud returned with the bat and looked set to steer his side over the line as he blasted five boundaries on his way to 40 while Jeremy Sandiha supported with 39, the pair adding 68 for the fifth wicket. When both batsmen were dismissed, too much was left for Khemraj Tika to do and he was left unbeaten on 19.
