Winners Connection grounded Hi-Stars 2-0 when the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) ‘Mash Cup’ continued  Friday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground, Linden.

The duo of Jaffon Figueira and Akeem Caesar recorded one conversion apiece to secure the vital result.

Figueira opened the scoring in the fourth minute, uncorking a powerful shot from inside the left of the penalty box which settled into the right corner.

Hi-Stars were presented with two penalty attempts in the first half, however both were wasted. The first materialized in the 25th minute, only for the striker to be denied by the custodian from the distance. The second transpired seven minutes later and was inexplicably blasted high over the crossbar and out of the venue.

It went from bad to worse for Hi-Stars as Michael Peters was shown a red card in the 48th minute. Winners Connection would eventually capitalize on their numerical advantage as Caesar scored in the 71st minute, slotting home from the top of the six yard area, following a cross from the left side.

Meanwhile, Coomacka overcame a two goal deficit to secure a 2-2 draw with Capital FC. A second half double from Marmarlaque Davidson ensured Coomacka walked away with the share of the spoils, recording his conversions in the space of 11 minutes.

The match initially started positively for Capital FC, as Kwesi Tafawa opened the scoring in the fourth minute, stabbing into the back of the net, following a scramble inside the center of the box. The lead then grew in the 36th minute compliments of an Andre Mayers conversion, as he slotted home from inside the box, after latching onto a loose ball.

However, Davidson took over in the dying moments, pulling one back in the 74th minute. It was a clinical finish from Davidson, who slotted past the goalkeeper following a cross into the area to finish off a quick counterattack.

The score was then levelled in the 85th minute as Davidson directed a powerful header past the custodian, after a cross inside the area. The tournament will continue on Wednesday at the same venue with another doubleheader.
