The National COVID-19 Task Force has granted the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) approval to resume cricketing activities, according to a release from GCB yesterday.

“The National Covid-19 Task Force recently gave written approval to the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) to resume cricket activities in Guyana. This approval came after the GCB was instructed in September, 2021, to suspend activities,” the release stated.

The correspondence further added, “With this approval, the GCB is now set to roll off its list of regular competitions at all levels including inter-county and women’s cricket.”

The territorial board indicated that all county boards, associations and clubs are to be informed to begin their preparations.

The approval letter from the Task Force detailed that all players, coaches, officials and spectators must be fully vaccinated and only 40 per cent of the venue’s capacity is allowed with all guidelines enforced.

The Berbice Cricket Board and Georgetown Cricket Association have similarly indicated their intention to resume the sport within their jurisdictions. The Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc also hosted a successful three-day Prime Minister’s Cup last week. Meanwhile, the release highlighted that the national senior team is expected to begin training for the upcoming Regional Four-Day tournament which is tentatively set to bowl off on January, 2022.

However, no timeline was referenced for the resumption of training of the team. The GCB had also published a vacancy for the head coach and assistant coach positions. No announcement has been made to indicate if the posts have been filled.
