Protesting has resumed at Dartmouth, on the Essequibo Coast, in Region Two, over the killing of businessman Orin Boston by a policeman.
Residents have burnt tyres that they placed across the Dartmouth bridge to protest the institution of a manslaughter charge against police constable Sherwin Peters as they believe he should have been charged with murder.The killing of the businessman on September 15 last year had set off similar protests.
Boston’s widow, Feona Boston, who has maintained that the police kicked down their back door, went into their bedroom and shot the businessman, last week told Stabroek News that she was dissatisfied with the institution of the manslaughter charge as she believes that Peters should have been charged with murder. “I don’t like how they charge he with manslaughter. My husband was murdered and they charge he with manslaughter. Duh ain’t right at all. I ain’t agree with duh. Duh is murder,” she said.
Peters was charged last Friday over the killing of Boston during the raid of his home by the the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit. He was set $1 million bail.
