Two men open fire at CANU ranks

Two men opened fire on ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) in Corentyne, Berbice on Tuesday following the interception of a motor car which contained more than $17 million in cannabis.

CANU in a statement said that during the operation which took place at No. 69 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, motor car PKK 4588 was intercepted and 129.6 pounds of cannabis was seized.

During the process, CANU said two male occupants exited the motor car and opened fire when confronted by CANU officers. They then fled.

According to CANU, the cannabis which carries a street value of $17.6M is suspected to have been intended for transshipment to neighbouring Suriname.
