Pouderoyen mauled Belle West by a 6-0 scoreline when the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) Senior Men’s League kicked off on Sunday at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.

EJ Mars opened the scoring under fortuitous circumstances, as a powerful strike from the left side of the field, slipped through the grasp of the goalkeeper and settled into the back of the net. Chad Matthews then made his presence felt two minutes later, racing onto a through pass before finishing beyond the reach of the advancing custodian into the left corner.

Darrel Abrams got into the scoring act in the 37th minute, leaping above his marker to glance his header following a corner-kick into the left corner. The 3-0 scoreline remained unchanged heading into the halftime interval.

The rout continued upon the resumption of play, as Kevin Humphrey scored in the 51st. It was another goalkeeping error which led to the conversion, as a right-sided corner-kick was badly misjudged by the opposing custodian as it sailed into the left corner.

Telelen Adolph then made it 5-0 in the 67th minute, dribbling the right-back while cutting into the centre of the field, before uncorking a powerful effort into the far corner. Keon Kirton completed the result in the 83rd as he calmly converted from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute.

Meanwhile, Den Amstel defeated No. #1 All-Stars 3-1. Andre Hector, Kerwin Fraser, and Malcolm Miggins scored in the 22nd, 86th and 90th+2 minute respectively. On target for the loser was Michael Bourne in the 80th minute.

The event resumes at the same venue on Sunday, as Eagles oppose Wales from 18:00hrs, and Pouderoyen battles Crane Rovers from 20:00hrs.

Head-coach of Pouderoyen, Shavaine Gent-Bess during a brief post-match comment said, “The club dedicates the victory to Lawrence Barrington, former centre forward of the club who passed away recently following a bout with illness. He is the brother of our current team manager Patrick Barrington.”
