GCC, 4R Lions, march into GCA U19 final

4R Lions and Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) marched into the final of the Georgetown Cricket Association Ramchand Auto Sales, Survival Group of Companies and Trophy Stall under-19 50-over tournament after victories in Saturday’s semi-finals.

At the Guyana Defence Force Ground, 4R defeated Bel Air Rubis by eight wickets to put one hand on the trophy.

With the match reduced to a 45-over affair, 4R won the toss and inserted Rubis who were bundled out for 103 in 21.4 overs. 4R then raced to 106 for two in 13 overs.

Salim Khan wrecked Rubis’ batting line-up with impressive figures of 5-13 from six overs including the wicket of Sasenarine Harricharran (12) to break a 43-run opening partnership.

Khan was supported by Matthew Pottaya and Sanjay Algoo who each took two wickets.

Henraj Hariprashad top scored with 41 from just 28 balls, hitting five sixes and one four while Lawrence Pellew was the only other batsman to reach double figures with 18 from 21 balls. He stroked three boundaries along the way. Extras accounted for 19.

The chase was piloted by former West Indies Under-16 sensation, Rampertab Ramnauth who clubbed two sixes and eight fours on his way to 54 from 31 balls.

Ramnauth added 77 for the first wicket with his captain, Romeo Deonarain who made a 22-ball 19. Cameos also came from Hemendray Gurdyal (17 not out) and Sachin Balgobin (10 not out) to see 4R over the line.

Meanwhile, over at the GCC ground, the match was also reduced to a 45-over contest with the hosts emerging winners after beating Transport Sports Club by 83 runs.

GCC won the toss and opted to take first strike, posting 158 all out in 43.2 overs before bundling out Transport for a paltry 75 in 26 overs.

GCC’s innings was propped up by Mavendra Dindyal and Thaddeus Lovell who each struck 31 as well as Marlon Ramsurace and Joash Charles with 25 runs each.

Myheim Khan grabbed 3-27 while Nehemiah Hohenkirk and Alvin Mohabir bagged two wickets a piece.

Transport’s chase was curtailed by Dindyal who returned to take 4-20 from five overs and spin his side to victory. He was backed up by Lovell who returned 3-21. Jeremiah Hohenkirk top scored with 19 while Khan was the only other batsman to reach double figures with 12.
