Cops probing circulation of photo wrongfully labelled ‘suspect’ in Mars murder

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has launched an investigation to identify the perpetrator who circulated the photograph of an individual as being wanted for Kirwyn Mars murder, wrongfully labelled as the suspect.

The police said in a press release yesterday that the GPF was the only legitimate organisation authorised to publish wanted bulletins for murder suspects. Under the 2018 Cyber Crime Act, it is illegal for members of the public to do so as it would be deemed criminal behaviour.

This statement was made after a photograph of an individual was circulated in relation to Mars’ murder. Additionally, the release said that at no time did the GPF issue a wanted bulletin for the individual who was wrongfully labelled as the suspect.

Members of the public are asked to refrain from such dangerous and unlawful practices, especially when such acts are done with the use of a computer system, the release said. Such irresponsible actions should be condemned by every right-thinking Guyanese for they also amount to attempts to pervert the course of justice while an active police investigation is ongoing.
