Local golfers are for the first time competing in this weekend’s Tobago Open being hosted at the Tobago Plantations Magdalena Golf Resort.

The eight players were welcomed by the president of the Trinidad and Tobago Golf Association Wayne Baptiste on Friday.

At the opening ceremony of the two-day (Saturday and Sunday) event with 94 international golfers set to battle for top honours, Vice president of the Barbados Golf Association David Philips also welcomed the visiting team.

The Tobago Open is one of the most celebrated tournaments in the Caribbean and is being played on a tough oceanside golf course where the wind and gusts add to the challenge. Hundreds of golfers take on its challenge annually and now for the first time, Guyana’s golfers will be put to the test.

“We are happy that both of our golf clubs in Guyana are represented here and feel that we have the ability to perform well over the coming days.”

Representing Guyana are:
