Joint Operation rescues 44 female foreigners at Red Dragon Night Club

The Ministry of Home Affairs today said that the Guyana Police Force – CID – Trafficking in Persons Unit, in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security – C-TIP Unit and the Ministry of Home Affairs, conducted a cordon and search operation at Red Dragon Night Club, situated on Robb Street, Georgetown, on Monday, March 4th, 2024, at approximately 2:30 am, based on received intelligence.

Mystery over delayed GPL shipment rolls on

As questions continue to swirl about who should he held responsible for an oil spill off Tobago and the whereabouts of the tug that was pulling the barge that capsized, Prime Minister Mark Phillips yesterday continued to denied that the fuel was destined for Guyana and he said that in any event the power company only takes responsibility for cargo after discharge at its contracted location.

Farmer in case of burnt remains of teen placed on $1m bail

Godfrey Carrington, a 59-year-old farmer of Lot 71 Unity Street, La Grange, West Bank Demerara, who was held for questioning in relation to the discovery of the charred remains of Shaquille Jones known as “Botha” was last month placed on $1 million bail with the condition that he reports to the police periodically.

Dear Editor, I would like to comment on two current issues in the news:  The ANUG seat in Parliament should be immediately given up based on previous arrangements and it is a betrayal of all political and moral  principles to hold onto that seat against the wish of that party – the most egregious  example being that betrayal by Charrandass Persaud against the APNU coalition.

Dear Editor, I was flummoxed by the revelation that “The GTU on Friday submitted its proposal to court-appointed mediators outlining the terms under which the country’s teachers will end industrial action and return to the classroom” (Kaieteur News 4.03.24) as I was unaware that this was among the reliefs sought from the court by the GTU and is therefore covered by the court-ordered mediation.

Venezuela sets presidential election for July 28

CARACAS,  (Reuters) – Venezuela will hold its presidential election on July 28, the head of the national electoral council said yesterday, though uncertainty remains over who will be the opposition coalition’s candidate with President Nicolas Maduro expected to seek another term.
