Barticians join clean-up drive

Scores of Barticians, local businesses, the Mazaruni Prison, the Regional Administration and the Health Department, and the Lions Club organisation braved the inclement weather on Sunday and enlisted in the country wide clean-up effort, GINA said.

GDF, Florida National Guard in expert exchange

The U.S. Embassy Security Cooperation Office, together with representatives from the Florida National Guard, conducted a Non Commissioned Officer and Officer Leadership subject matter expert exchange with the Guyana Defence Force, a release from the US Embassy said today.

Police transfers approved, Blanhum now Crime Chief

The Guyana Police Force says that following consultations with the Vice President and Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan, the Commissioner of Police, Seelall Persaud has today proceeded with the transfers of Senior Officers of the Police Force which had previously been put on hold.

Teen miner stabbed to death in Kitty

At about 0150h. today, the police say that Keith Daniels, 18 years, of Public Road, Kitty, Georgetown, was walking along Public Road when he was confronted by three men, one of whom stabbed him to the chest and they escaped.

Skeldon man killed in accident

The police say that investigations are being conducted into a fatal accident that occurred at about 1930h on Saturday at Line Path, Skeldon, Corentyne, and which resulted in the death of a pedestrian, Ashok Kumar called “Ram”, 68 years of age.

Rupert Perry (lane 5) winning the men’s 200m final yesterday at the National Track and Field Centre to complete the sprint double at the Athletic Association of Guyana’s National Senior Championships. Perry posted a season-best 21.1 seconds to take the event ahead of Davin Fraser (21.4s) and youth athlete, Compton Caesar in 21.7 seconds.

Sprint ace, Rupert Perry completed an impressive double as he captured the 200 metres on yesterday’s final day of the Athletic Association of Guyana’s National Senior Championships held over at the National Track and Field Centre.

GCU&SA umpires classes commence tomorrow

The Georgetown Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association (GCU&SA) will commence its 2015 cricket umpire classes tomorrow at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) pavilion and is inviting all interested persons to attend the classes which will get underway with an address by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Secretary and Director of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Anand Sanasie at the said venue at 5:00p.m.

PARIS, (Reuters) – As his blazing backhand skidded off from inside the baseline, Stanislas Wawrinka sent his racket rocketing skywards after dashing Novak Djokovic’s French Open dreams with a victory barely anyone expected yesterday.
