Sir Shridath offers support for Ali/Maduro talks

Former Commonwealth Secretary General, Sir Shridath Ramphal has offered  his support for the talks set for Thursday in St Vincent and the Grenadines between President Irfaan Ali and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in the wake of the tensions that have arisen between the two countries.

USSOUTHCOM, GDF collaborating in cyber domain

As part of the United States’ and Guyana’s continuing military-to-military partnership, from December 5-7, the United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM), Florida Air National Guard, and interagency personnel met with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) to assess its military communications network and to discuss emerging threats in the cyber and 5G domains.

Ali commissions Heroes Highway in honour of fallen copter crew

With a replica of the giant anteater in the foreground amid songs and prayers, a tearful President Irfaan Ali last evening named the Eccles-Great Diamond Four-lane road, Heroes Highway in honour of the five members of Guyana Defence Force (GDF) who died in the December 6 helicopter crash, stating that it represented their legacy of strength and hope.

Unopposed Witter returns to helm of GTUC

Norris Witter was elected unopposed as President of the Guyana Trades Union Congress (GTUC) at its November 8 to 10, 5th triennial congress at which the union reaffirmed its solidarity with all Guyanese on the Guyana/Venezuela border controversy.

One of the many ways in which the state can show respect for the sacrifice made by the five servicemen who perished in Wednesday’s tragic crash: Brigadier (Rtd) Gary Beaton, Colonel Michael Shahoud, Lieutenant Colonel Mike Charles, Lieutenant Colonel, Sean Welcome and Sergeant Jason Khan is to ensure that there is a full and independent investigation of the circumstances and the condition of the helicopter to ensure that there is never a recurrence.
