A 25-year-old Parika Market vendor, Parbattie Amanda Persaud was this morning beaten to death, allegedly by her abusive husband, with a piece of wood while she was heading to the market.

2024 is upon us! And with a new year’s imminent arrival, it is customary to reflect on the concluding year and formulate plans for the year ahead.

The University of Guyana spent most of the year 2023 celebrating the 60th anniversary of the institution which was founded in 1963, opening its halls to academic instruction on October 1, in that year. 

If we all thought the Argyle Declaration would allow us to usher in the New Year in  traditional fashion without interruption from President Nicolás Maduro, we were mistaken.
