(Ministry of Education) The Ministry of Education wishes to notify the general public that due to the current situation, careful thought has been given to the scheduled dates for the administration of the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) 2020.

As part of its global cutback because of the coronavirus pandemic, American Airlines yesterday announced that with effect from tomorrow its flights to Guyana from New York and Miami will be suspended through May 6th.

A High Level Team from CARICOM is now in Guyana to supervise the re-counting of ballots from the country’s 2 March 2020 Elections, according to a statement today from CARICOM.

  President David Granger and Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo have agreed to a CARICOM supervised recount of the votes cast at the March 2 general and regional elections.

On the heels of the pullout today of the OAS observer mission, the missions from the Commonwealth, the European Union and the Carter Center today expressed grave concern about the continued lack of transparency in the determination of the March 2nd election results for Region Four.

In a sign of the deepening crisis for Guyana and the caretaker Granger administration, the OAS election observer mission today announced it was withdrawing from the country as the tabulation process for Region Four is not transparent despite the many complaints about it.

The envoys of the US, UK, the EU and Canada today ratcheted up the pressure on the Granger administration and GECOM by warning that the swearing in of any President on the basis of flawed results could lead to Guyana’s isolation.

The European Union (EU) Election Observation Mission has written to the Returning Officer of Region Four, Clairmont Mingo asking to see the Statements of Poll that he used to prepare a spreadsheet of results which is intended to be utilised  for the declaration of results for Demerara-Mahaica.

CARICOM Chair, Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley today called on electoral officials here and other stakeholders to ensure the transparent conclusion of the tabulation of votes at Monday’s elections by using Statements of poll. 

The observer missions of the Commonwealth, the Organization of American States, the European Union, and The Carter Center today said that the tabulation of the result for Region Four must be resumed to enable a final result.

The envoys of the US, UK, Canada and the European Union today called on President David Granger to avoid a transition of government at this point as it would be unconstitutional since it would be based on a vote tabulation process that lacked credibility and transparency.
