U.S. Treasury names top Guatemalan drug trafficker

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The U.S. Treasury  Department named eight individuals and entities today as  drug traffickers, including a Guatemalan drug lord believed to  be one of the most prolific Central American narcotics  traffickers, and banned Americans from having any dealings with  them.

In a history making moment, the army today announced the promotion of Guyana’s first female Colonel, Windee Algernon, who has been elevated in rank from Substantive Lieutenant Colonel, in accordance with Part III Section 16 of the Defence Act Chapter 15:01, of 1977.

Peru says development to deter drug trafficking

LIMA, (Reuters) – Peru plans to focus on  development rather than military force to curtail drug  trafficking in the world’s most densely planted coca region,  where it is battling the remnants of the Shining Path rebels,  its new defense minister said yesterday.
