The Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) in charge of the Port Mourant Market in Region Six has closed the market until further notice in response to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), while the region’s town councils have issued stricter guide-lines for businesses and vendors.

Bisram rearrested after magistrate discharges murder case against him 

Marcus Brian Bisram was yesterday freed of the murder charge laid against him over the killing of carpenter Faiyaz Narinedatt but his freedom was short-lived as he was re-arrested by police based on a directive from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who believes there is sufficient evidence for him to stand trial in the High Court.

Cops say Cotton Tree youth was shot while chopping ranks

The Guyana Police Force yesterday said Sewdat Hansraj, the youth who was fatally shot during last Friday evening’s protest at Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice, had been attacking its ranks with a cutlass alongside other protestors—an assertion that was rejected by his family and residents of the village, who called for an investigation to be done.
