The PPP left crumbs for the public servants

Dear Editor, In an attempt to justify the 7% salaries increase to public servants that was announced on 18th November 2021, and to try and throw water on the backlash coming from all across the country, Minister of Public Service, Sonia Parag made a public statement claiming that the PPP never promised a 50% increase to public servants.

For a few dollars

Essequibo busman Kass, who drove one of the big buses on the Essequibo route when I was going to school in Georgetown, was fond of playing a game with passengers who would disembark after a trip and come around to the front of the bus to pay Kass their fare and get any change owing. 

No longer a CANU rank

The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) yesterday said Xavier Scott was inaccurately identified as a member of the unit in the report “CANU rank, soldier get bail on separate charges,” published in the November 20, 2021 edition of Stabroek News.

Public servants’ 7% increase

It was only the week before last when President Irfaan Ali told the nation that discussions were ongoing on wages and salary increases for public servants, and that an announcement would be made very soon.
