Kaituma businessman held over gun, ammo, ganja

Andrew Williams, a 35-year-old businessman of Port Kaituma, North West District and also of William Street, Kitty, Georgetown was arrested last evening in Regional Police Division #1 after he was found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as 299.7 grams of marijuana.

UK pumps up credit agency lending purse to £2.1b

Even as businesses here lament poor access to funding from local commercial banks, the United Kingdom yesterday announced that it has increased its credit agency lending purse from £750m to £2.1 billion through the UK Export Finance (UKEF), and these sums could be tapped by both government and the private sector.

CCJ hears Gaskin case on separate environmental permits for Hess, CNOOC

In a marathon hearing lasting just under five hours, the Caribbean Court of Justice yesterday heard arguments in the appeal filed by political commentator Ramon Gaskin, who has over the years strongly argued that separate environmental permits were not granted to Hess Guyana Exploration Ltd (Hess) and China National Offshore Oil Cooperation Guyana (CNOOC) for what he says is their involvement in oil production here.
