Teachers strike to go on until gov’t engages

By Antonio Dey and Bebi Oosman Both the President and the General Secretary of the GTU yesterday vowed that a strike that has seen strong support from teachers across the country will enter its second week tomorrow and will continue until the government convenes talks on collective bargaining.

Guyana hasn’t yet signed new EU-ACP agreement

Guyana is yet to sign on to the Samoa Agreement – the successor to the Cotonou Agreement that the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (OACPS) has with the European Union (EU) –  as it is addressing concerns  including the matter of refugees, sources say.

On Thursday, Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) officers whilst conducting a follow-up investigation in the Cornelia Ida Housing Scheme area, conducted a search at a residence which led to the discovery of 518 brick-like parcels, wrapped in transparent plastic suspected to be cannabis and 12 brick-like parcels wrapped in transparent plastic suspected to be cocaine.
