Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn has defended the rehiring of Customs Anti- Narcotic Unit Director James Singh but has blocked him from speaking on the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) which led to his termination from the position under the former APNU+AFC government.

Guyana-born artist Frank Bowling knighted

Guyana-born artist Frank Bowling OBE RA has been awarded a knighthood in the Queen of England’s Birthday Honours Sir Frank, 86, who was born in Bartica in then British Guiana, was conferred with the honour of Knight Bachelor in the Birthday 2020 Honours List, which recognises the achievements of a wide range of extraordinary people across the United Kingdom.

Ali promises Region Six development despite challenges

Saying that his government has redirected $2.9 billion in the capital programme outside of the regional budget to be spent on developmental works in Region Six, President Irfaan Ali yesterday promised to forge ahead with plans at a rapid pace despite the economic challenges in order to ensure that the livelihoods of citizens are improved.

Ice cool Narine earns KKR last over win

Smith wary of playing out-of-practice Stokes today

NEW DELHI,  (Reuters) – Rajasthan Royals captain Steve Smith is wary of fielding a rusty Ben Stokes in today’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad even though the inaugural champions badly need to revive their sagging Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign.

The Lucas Stock Index (LSI) fell 0.58% during the first period of trading in October, 2020. The stocks of five companies were traded, with 151,501 shares changing hands. There were no Climbers and two Tumblers. The stocks of Banks DIH (DIH) fell 2.50% on the sale of 30,302 shares, while the stocks of Demerara Tobacco Company (DTC) fell 0.50% on the sale of 730 shares.  In the meanwhile, the stocks of Demerara Bank Limited (DBL), Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) and Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (BTI) remained unchanged on the sale of 112,000 shares, 7,969 shares, and 500 shares, respectively. The LSI closed at 641.39.

Changes from COVID

It is undoubtedly true that one of the early effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is the rather sudden realisation of aspects of daily life which had become part of the fabric, so that we had unconsciously come to see them as a given and were therefore jolted by not being able to simply go where the crowds are as in, for me, dinners at Grand Coastal and the very attentive hamburger service at the Pegasus Poolside or the latest film at the cinema.

Life’s wonders

               “The unexamined life is not worth living” – Socrates. When I was no more than twelve or thirteen the feeling grew in me that it was important not simply to live life day by day but somehow to give greater meaning to it by recording what was happening every one of those days and by planning how I should shape and what I should make of my life in the future.
