Practicing mindfulness

This past week has been awkward. My sleeping patterns have been out of whack and it felt like I subjected myself to an obscene amount of unnecessary screen time out of sheer boredom.

Guyana’s top player at the 2020 FIDE Online Olympiad Wendell Meusa. Meusa shared the two top boards for Guyana and demonstrated he was an elite contender by winning all five of his games.

Meusa, a Guyanese national chess player, toppled emerging giants from Nicaragua, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Aruba, and Trinidad and Tobago to win his five games in the virtual World Chess Federation (FIDE) 2020 Chess Olympiad.

The Lucas Stock Index (LSI) rose 2.63% during the second period of trading in August 2020. The stocks of four companies were traded, with 91,295 shares changing hands. There were two Climbers and two Tumblers. The stocks of Demerara Bank Limited (DBL) rose 29.81% on the sale of 6,340 shares. The stocks of the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) rose 4.44% on the sale of 1,000 shares. On the other hand, the stocks of the Guyana Bank for Trade & Industry (BTI) declined 4.29% on the sale of 377 shares. The stocks of Banks DIH (DIH) also declined 2.56% on the sale of 83,578 shares. The LSI closed at 633.03.

My tutor at Cambridge, Professor Nick Hammond, authority on the history of ancient Macedonia and on the life of Alexander the Great, used to coach me on what he called “exercises of the mind.”

Dogs

Like many Guyanese, I grew up with dogs as part of my home space, beginning at the village of Hague, West Demerara, where I was born and spent my early years and later at Vreed-en-Hoop, where we also had a dog.

Dishing out food

“Do not tumble the pot.” When my siblings at I were at the age where we were allowed to dish out our own food, directly from the pot or pan, that was the instruction (in retrospect it was more like an admonishment) given by our mother.
