An elderly remigrant was early yesterday afternoon found dead in her home at South Amelia’s Ward, Linden with a piece of electrical cord around her neck and police are working with the theory that she was a victim of a robbery gone bad.

Tourism considerations

As Guyana continues the current tourism expansion push, persons in the industry must be encouraged by the number of interesting travel outreaches that have come to Guyana in recent times – cruise ship in Georgetown last year; birding groups in the Rupununi; visiting ocean-going yachts;  a National Geographic cruise ship in the Essequibo, etc. 

The Jagdeo challenge

The Guyana Times published a story on Thursday March 20 reporting that the opposition had caused a poll to be conducted last month which found that “former President Bharrat Jagdeo would be the most formidable candidate that the Opposition parties… could face in any upcoming general elections.”

The 2014 budget

Centerpiece The anticipations of the 2014 budget are over.  The Minister of Finance delivered the intention of the government to create a better Guyana for all Guyanese that carries a financial tag of $220 billion.

Conclusion

  Budget 2014 is a huge disappointment; it seems to contain only a shopping list for Expenditure, while offering to do nothing on employment creation and addressing the critical issues of corruption and better public sector financial management.
