A 39-year-old Sophia man was on Sunday found with a 9mm pistol and 15 9mm live rounds of ammunition during a search by police on mobile patrol in the vicinity of Main and Church streets, New Amsterdam, Berbice.

European Commission Vice President to visit on Wednesday

Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, will visit Guyana on Wednesday, June 14 and Suriname on Thursday, June 15 to discuss with government representatives, stakeholders and civil society the path towards the upcoming COP28 UN Climate Change Conference.

A father and son who had pleaded guilty to the 2018 killing of 23-year-old labourer Brian Dwarka, appeared before Justice Sandil Kissoon on Thursday for sentencing; but only the son was sentenced as the judge said that a review of the evidence showed that there had been no culpability on the father’s part.

Twenty-five-year-old Veshan Bharrat of Reliance, Essequibo Coast, appeared at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court on Thursday June 08, before Magistrate Esther Sam where he was charged with Larceny of Cattle which occurred between May 28 and June 01, at Henrietta, Essequibo Coast.
