IACHR recommends `full reparations’ by state to Isseneru villagers for human rights violations

The Inter-American Com-mission on Human Rights (IACHR), in a landmark ruling, has recommended that the Government of Guyana adopt the necessary measures to ensure that the Region Seven Amerindian village of Isseneru and its members receive “full reparations for the material and immaterial damages they suffered on the account of the violation of their human rights.”

Why the rigging attempt occurred after the election

Dear Editor, In a letter to Stabroek News on 26th April, 2022, Vishnu Bisram, after listing the various attempts to rig our elections from 1968 onwards and identifying the historical context in which these attempts were made, with which I have little or no disagreement, asks the question “why the effort was made to rig the outcome (the March 2020 elections) after the election rather than on Election day or before the count or during the initial count”?

Around 2.8m in English-speaking Caribbean food-insecure

Heat KO Hawks in five

Victor Oladipo scored 23 points and Bam Adebayo posted 20 points and made a key defensive play as the Miami Heat held off the visiting Atlanta Hawks for a series-clinching 97-94 victory in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference’s first round Tuesday night.
