Accountability UNICEF review of school dorms last year highlighted myriad deficiencies: A United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) assessment of all 24 school dormitories across the country last year highlighted a plethora of deficiencies to the Ministry of Education and another followed with myriad recommendations but it is unclear if any changes were made.

EU in $1b mangroves boost

A European Union (EU) agreement with Guyana for the advancement and expansion of mangroves will see the country receiving budgetary support to the tune of €4.6 million ($1.049b) for strengthening sea defences along the vulnerable coastline.

Re-opening of the Visa Document Service Center (DSC)

Embassy of the United States of America         100 Duke & Young Streets, Kingston, Georgetown, Guyana To improve efficiency in the visa application process and to provide better services to visa applicants, the Consular Section of the United States Embassy in Georgetown, Guyana re-opened the Visa Document Service Center, known as the “DSC” on June 13, 2023. 

Failures

On March 11 this year, Mr Neptrid Hercules, who was just seven months shy of retirement, having worked in the mining industry for some 42 years, disappeared along with the bulldozer he was operating when an earthen structure in the area where he was working collapsed.
