Economy Ram pummels gov’t over management of economy: Focusing on the foreign exchange controversy, commentator and chartered accountant Christopher Ram has pounded the government over the management of the economy and has called for the exclusion of non-bank cambios and for more banking licences to foster increased competition.

Tractors, subventions handed over to 14 Region 3 NDCs

The Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development distributed 14 tractors to the 14 Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDC) in Region Three during a two-day outreach The tractors, worth over $100 million, were handed over by President Irfaan Ali and are intended to boost works on the ground and are the partial fulfilment of a promise made by the president which also included the handout of subventions for the NDCs.

GOA gives AAG $3M for CARIFTA Games

The top brass of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) recently presented a cheque worth $3M to the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) to help offset its expenses for the upcoming CARIFTA Games in the Bahamas.

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, National Sports Commission, Easter Swimming Programme is expected to have a turnout of over 2000 persons.

MCYS/NSC to launch Easter Swim Programme tomorrow

Following an overwhelming response of in excess of 2000 applicants, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS) in collaboration with the National Sports Commission (NSC), will officially launch its annual Easter Vacation Swimming Programme tomorrow at the National Aquatic Centre, Liliendaal with a grand opening ceremony from 10am.

`Gross discrepancy’ seen in maternal care

The $386 million project being funded by Global Affairs Canada to improve maternal and neonatal care in Guyana’s hinterland regions will be bridging a critical gap in the healthcare sector for rural areas, according to Dr Narendra Singh, a professor at McMaster University.

Enmore man fined for cruelty to dog

Indar Bhagwant, a 42-year-old driver of Logwood, Enmore, East Coast Demerara, appeared last week at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, where he was charged with  the offence of  cruelty to an animal.
